Saturday july 24th- Sunday july 25th

HI so its monday of my last week. can you believe its my last week? Cuz i can't. I'm sososososososo excited to come home and see everyone and sleep in my bed and snuggle with my dog. [Jake Schlosberg is sitting next to me, he wants me to say he's adorable.]

Saturday I went to long island, to visit Alexandra Spergel otherwise known as Sperg, or Ally, with the occasional Alex. We drove around with her friend and ran a bit of errands and took a little nap. Ally had a few friends over so i could meet everyone.  It was weird getting asked about LA. My favorite question was
"How far are you from the city?"
"Uh... the whole thing is the city"
[confusion]
"So do you live in an apartment?'
"No i live in a house."
[more confusion]
"Oh, cool"
It was weird being "exotic" or from a distant land, makes me realize i need to get out more. Her friends were all nice.
Ps. Sperg's backyard is crazy beautiful, the picture is from sunday morning, it was 100 degrees and raining.

Sunday we went to borders and i got a giant book of pictures of Marilyn Monroe for like 7 dollars, i need to go get more books was all it made me realize. Then we cuddled and listened to the rain and read our books [i got a real book too]. Then when it stopped raining we got salads and went for a bike ride, and had a mini photoshoot. Then i hooped on my train and reunited with my roomie Devin.

Thursday july 22-Friday july 23

SOOOOO today [yesterday] i went to the HighLine with my class [http://www.thehighline.org/], which is a railroad turned into a garden. It's incredible, some of the benches have wheels and you can roll on the track. Its almost weird to see plants in NY.

Today which is actually friday, I'm taking a break from working on my final project, you cant stare at the same picture for too long or you fuck it up. I feel so much more confident in my editing skills. I was also surprised that a lot of the stuff i had been doing was "correct". Its weird to see a picture and like it and then make it pretty, then go back to the original and it be totally different. I guess its just seeing the potential. I cannot wait to learn more about this world that is photography/
Ps, Angie if my mother is making you read this, yes i am shooting in RAW

Tuesday july 12

so my class went to the natural history museum, it wasn't the funnest of places to shoot, so we wandered around the upper west side and settled in central park. Where i took a million and one pictures of Ally, who is my beautiful friend that i hangout with in my photography class. After class i had my photoshoot which was a success, i cant wait to start editing them. [photo on the right is part of my photoshoot]

thursday july15th

My photography class went to Coney Island today to shoot. It was an hour and a half train ride, it was alright though because it went above ground and we went over bridges and whatnot. It was sort of a carnival town, which was fun but most things were closed. Me and Ally made a friend who ran the bumper cars.  He was missing a few teeth but there was a fence between us thank god, he told us a joke and we were on our way. I think the most fun i had was just watching the people, carnival people are so strange. There were also too many old shirtless men going for runs down the board walk. All and all an interesting morning.

Saturday july 10th-Tuesday July 13th

Sorry this is so late i had to find an alternative to using my computer since the internet doesn't really work. So be patient with my posts.

So we didnt sleep a whole lot since there was a toga party goin on in my backyard or whatever you call it in new york since there was no grass involved. saturday being my mothers last day here we went to MoMA, which currently has a photography exhibit of woman photographers. Which was AMAZING, Diane Arbus was probably my favorite of the bunch. We also walked around the upper east/west side, i guess its the Beverly Hills of NY, but i was just looking around for Blair Waldorf. We walked through central park and petted all the carriage horses. We visited the giant apple store, its under ground, it was super crowded so we didn't stay long. Then we spent the rest of the day getting ready to move into the SVA dorms and repacking and cleaning. Also we had dinner at John's again. I uh... successfully knocked over the whole pizza, luckily it landed on my plate!

Then sunday. After waking up at 5:30 am my time (8:30 new york time) i lugged my two suitcases and my mothers down three flights of stairs and hailed a taxi over to the School of Visual arts. Thankfully i don't have crazy roommates.
Kate was the first one there, she has dread's and a lizard tattoo she's super sweet, she's from massachusetts. Then came Kelsey, she looks like a mouse, she's super adorable, and quiet, she came from New Jersey. Emily was next she is also very nice, she's from Marylin. Devin was second to last to arrive [leaving me still not having met the girl living in the room with me] she literally walked in said hi and left, and didn't come back till right before curfew, she's from Ohio. She's really cool though we've become friends. Amanda was the last to arrive she has bright red hair and shes from new mexico, she really likes owls.

Monday was our first day of class we jumped right into working with lightroom which i wasn't familiar with and we did some shooting in the studio and i become more familiar with my camera. I already have a group of friends in my class which is really cool. Brooks lives on my floor and he's supper fabulous and funny. Ally is beautiful and has long curly/wavy hair she lives in NY on long island. Mars is from canada and she's cuter cute and sweet. My teachers name is Raissa and she's very nice and i believe we're going to get along. My TA helped build photoshop, how amazing is that?

Tuesday was printing from lightroom and some photoshop basics, i already knew a lot of the photoshop but doing it in CS4 compared to CS2 which i have was nice, CS4 is amazing. I wonder what CS5 is like. They want us to start shooting for our final project already since we only have three weeks. I want to do portraits that go with stories. But I'm a little nervous to ask new yorkers to tell me a story, i wonder if i can get stories from hobo's that would be so awesome. It needs more planning but how cool would that be?

Friday July 9th

Today i visited Pratt, today i discovered i did not want to go to Pratt. The campus was beautiful but it was very academic with its various clubs and sports and whatnot. Not to mention they have a bunch of retired show cats living on campus... It also has a foundation year, which i am not at all interested in. After taking drawing and painting since i was five, and then four years at LACHSA, I'm pretty sure i know what i want to do. We had indian food for dinner, it was quite fancy and not as authentic as i would have wanted but still yummy.

Wednesday july 7 - Thursday july 8th

So one thing or another has kept me from writing the last couple of days. Last night the page just wasn't loading, or it would and then go white, no matter how man times i refreshed it, which was frustrating.

ANYWAY, we arrived tuesday night, and got very lost trying to find this amazing gelato place, my mothers friend Reed suggested. We also had THE BEST pizza known to man kind, or at least the best i have ever had, at Joe's right down the street.

Wednesday was our first full day here, it was also the HOTTEST. We had our touristy day [not that most days wont be]. We had breakfast in an ADORABLE little italian cafe a block or so down, mother was in heaven with everyone around her speaking italian and sipping her chai late [her fave just in case you were wondering]. We then got train passes and went to ground zero, which is under massive construction and not the most interesting thing to look at, we did however go to a little museum about 911 and you know... cried a little bit. My mother requested to see the statue of liberty, so we made our way down down downtown and took the stat island ferry there and back. My mother then decided i should see times square, which by the way is AWFULL and extremely overwhelming.

Thursday We went to visit parsons, which i liked very much, it sounds like the best fit for me so far. The tour guide was very cool and reminded me of Lachlan. We had dinner with some old friends of my mom's and i guess an old friend of mine, but i was like 9 when he move away so memories of him are few. He is now a very hard core ballet dancer.
